Who We Are:
C.H.O.I.C.E.S. is the acronym for The Center Helping Obesity In Children End Successfully, Inc. The name truly reflects our mission to prevent and eliminate the obesity epidemic in children by enabling them to make better choices as it relates to food and lifestyle. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. is made up of a small but committed team of educators, medical professionals, fitness professionals, parent volunteers and a very dedicated staff. With the help of supporters like you and Aetna Voices of Health, we hope to expand our programs to more families threatened by the health effects of obesity. Please show your support through voting and donating, today!
What we do:
Our programs are as multifaceted as obesity itself – combining fitness and nutrition education in a fun and exciting way with an emphasis on peer socialization. We provide low or no cost programs for children and families throughout the year, including: summer camps, family fitness outings, programs for overweight teens, mobile children’s expos, health fairs, and parent workshops to name just a few. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. innovative programs and community awareness events rely on collaborations with registered dietitians, personal trainers, clinical social workers, motivational coaches, educators, volunteers, and caring parents to provide children with tools for healthy living.
C.H.O.I.C.E.S. is a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 by a mother of an overweight child who was concerned with the growing obesity epidemic amongst our nation’s youth. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. was created as a resource for families struggling with obesity. C.H.O.I.C.E.S. has made great strides since 2002, helping more and more families each year. In 2010 the Center reached over 18,425 children, youth and their families through community outreach efforts in Metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. The goal is to spread awareness of this critical issue and significantly reduce the presence of childhood obesity in our communities. It is an ambitious goal and if it seems as if we are in a hurry, it is because we are!
