What we do:
We work with homeless women, children and families to provide them with a two year program to self-sufficiency. In that time, we teach them everything they need to know to be successful – that includes mandatory classes (GED, Financial Literacy and parenting classes). Childcare, food, supplies, clothing, case management, mental health case management, and a food pantry. All of these things are on-site at each location we serve – 6 total. One of the most important things we teach our homeless women and children is the importance of eating healthy. We partner with several organizations to provide our women with tools for this. Some of the things offered at Community Connections in support of this initiative are Zumba and exercise classes, kids in the kitchen (a cooking program for healthy eating) and counseling on health. Additionally, we serve approximately 600 children each year, partnering with the Jaguars to teach them about anti-obesity.
