Who We Are:
The Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC) was formed as a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PCVB) in 1987. The MAC is governed by a board of ethnically diverse people from both the public and private sectors representing a cross-section of Philadelphia’s business, government, cultural, hospitality and civic communities.
What We Do:
The Multicultural Affairs Congress (MAC) works to increase Philadelphia’s share of the multicultural meetings and tourism markets. MAC maximizes opportunities for the region by promoting Philadelphia as an ethnically diverse visitor destination, encouraging multicultural business and social responsibility that contributes to and benefits from the varying multicultural communities that enhance our region’s hospitality and tourism industry.
Although marketers are aware of the “Browning of America,” most companies are still challenged with creating successful plans that deliver the results to which they aspire. MAC has a proven track record of reaching the national and local multicultural markets. Since its inception, the PCVB has measured an economic impact of more than $1.5 billion resulting from multicultural meetings, conventions, reunions and events. MAC’s keys to success include traditional and non-traditional methods in achieving its goal of positioning Philadelphia as a leading multicultural travel and tourism destination. Cited as a national role model, Philadelphia’s efforts in reaching this vibrant and burgeoning market continue to be the envy of our competitors.
To accomplish our goals, we direct our attention towards the following areas:
MAC’s Board of Directors – Described as the most diverse board of directors in Philadelphia, the MAC board provides guidance and support of MAC’s mission. Our board members serve as our key partners in community relationships and activities. Additionally, this influential group of business and cultural leaders provide direct access to many key decision makers within the multicultural media market and the meetings and conventions industry.
Market Development – MAC works in tandem with the PCVB’s convention sales, services and tourism departments, as well as area hotels and leading hospitality organizations, to increase Philadelphia’s share of the multicultural meetings, conventions and tourism markets with innovative programs and research.
