Who We Are:
We are Volunteers in Medicine-Jacksonville (VIM-Jax), a nonprofit Free Healthcare Clinic for the Working Uninsured.

What we do:
We provide access to free primary healthcare and prevention education to our low-income working uninsured population. Initial consultations, physical examinations, laboratory tests, diagnoses, mammograms, ultrasounds, prescription medications, medical specialty referrals, ophthalmologic examinations, and eyeglasses are all provided FREE to our patients. The 4 most common morbidities we treat are: diabetes, asthma, hypertension (high blood pressure), and dislypidemia (high cholesterol). We provide educational materials for all our patients and offer one-on-one nutritional counseling as well as diabetes education classes. We utilize a best practices approach and evidence-based outcomes to provide quality care for our patients. We partner with WeCare (a local group of clinics) to offer specialty diagnostic studies and surgical, orthopedic and cardiac care. We also partner with the Sulzbacher clinic to offer dental care to our patients.

Our story:
We started organizing the clinic in 2002 after visiting the original VIM clinic in Hilton Head, SC. Our co-Founders – Dottie Dorion, RN and Jim Burt, MD gathered local medical and civic leaders, funders and Volunteers to open our full-service clinic in September of 2003. Since opening – over 5,458 individuals have received over 35,918 clinical appointments. We currently have over 200 Volunteers and provide an average of 500 clinical appointments every month – all free of charge to our patients.
