Community Outreach volunteers is non-profit Organization providing traditional services to Englewood, Woodlawn and Auburn Gresham Communities of Chicago.Our mission is to help residents become self-sufficient by providing opportunities that develop their innate abilities and skills to overcome cultural, educational, financial, and social barriers.
What We Do:
Community Outreach volunteers NFP provides After School tutoring, summer sports and Social and Cultural enrichment activities for Youth in Englewood, Auburn Gresham and Woodlawn Communities of Chicago. COV recruits, screens and trains Volunteers to serve other Organizations within these Communities. COV also provides nutrition and physical Fitness training Education classes.
Community Outreach Volunteers NFP (COV) began in 2006 by Mr. Tonny Lumu as a small initiative, serving 10 young people from Curie High School, Richardson High School, and Kennedy King College in Chicago Illinois, USA. Mr. Lumu started his nonprofit work with a number of local Non-governmental organizations in Uganda namely: Africa Resource Ministries, Kampala Baptist Church. He also served young people at Camp Trinity under the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina and Nexus Treatment Facility/Indian Oaks Academy (DCFS Agency) Manteno Illinois. While serving in the mentioned organizations, Mr. Lumu gained a lot of experience and developed a passion to serve Young people and their families. He migrated to the USA in 2005. As a proactive strategist, he started Community Outreach Volunteers NFP to help young people overcome Chicago Inner City Challenges due to the Violence he witnessed. Today COV has a number of programs as mentioned in the scope of work.
