Families First was founded as an orphanage in 1890 by two women who saw a need in the city of Atlanta. Over the last 124 years, we have been involved in several important developments:
1907: We founded the Atlanta’s Child’s Home to support young mothers in need of shelter and care
1937: We became the first licensed adoption agency in the state of Georgia
1964: We developed the first group home for troubled teens in Georgia
1970: We launched adoption services for special needs children
1989: We created “Children Cope with Divorce”, a national, court-based program
1991: We built Weaver Gardens, the first transitional-living facility of its kind in the country that provides independent living skills for young, homeless, first-time mothers
1996: The Adoptive Parent recruitment program for the placements of older children in custody of the State was developed
2007: We contracted with the Atlanta Housing Authority to provide intensive case management services to former residents of public housing slated for demolition
