New Hope Ministries

New Hope Ministries in a Christian social service agency that provides assistance with food, housing, heat and utilities, transportation, employment, job training and youth programs. We were founded in 1982 to address the lack of availability and accessibility for low to moderate income individuals and families in our community, including single parents, seniors in poverty, the working poor, and those facing financial crisis through unemployment, illness or divorce. In central Pennsylvania, we serve the greater Dillsburg, Dover and Hanover communities of York County, the eastern part of Cumberland County, and south and northern areas of Adams County. We are the primary non-governmental social service agency for over 310,000 people. Guided by our faith, values and compassion, we seek to be good stewards of the resources we have received and would consider it the highest compliment for a family not to need our services any longer.

New Hope provides an array of basic needs services, including food to prevent hunger; casework to help people meet their immediate needs and work toward long-term goals; housing assistance with rent, heat, and utilities to avert homelessness; and connection to other community resources. New Hope's food pantries receive and distribute over 2.5 million pounds of healthy and nutritious food each year. We're building healthy communities by providing nutritious food in underserved communities and teaching families how to prepare nutritious meals.

Beyond basic needs, we equip our guests to move toward stability. Programs include:

  • nutrition and cooking classes to help guests learn how to choose and prepare healthy meals on a budget;
  • Backpack Program which provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods to families with children over the weekend when free and reduced school meals are unavailable.;
  • job training programs that help with resume building, job search and preparation, soft skills, and education and workforce development opportunities including high school equivalency (GED) classes, Nurse Aide training classes, Forklift Certification Training and a CDL Class A Truck Driving program; and
  • quality children's programs from birth to 18 that prepare low-income and at-risk youth for success and promote a healthy lifestyle.

In 1983, New Hope Ministries opened its doors to the York County, Pennsylvania community of Dillsburg to help those in need. Since that time, New Hope has provided people with basic needs such as food, housing, transportation, and heat and utilities; workforce development and stability programs; and educational youth programs. Today, we have seven physical locations in central Pennsylvania: Dillsburg, Dover, Hanover, Lemoyne, Littlestown, Mechanicsburg, and New Oxford. We also operate a handful of monthly mobile pantries in rural communities where access to healthy food is limited. Last year, New Hope served over 22,000 people from 8,600 families. We can't do this important work alone. New Hope partners with hundreds of churches, businesses, service groups, foundations, other nonprofit agencies, and over 2,000 committed volunteers who provide 107,000 hours of service every year. We want to achieve the maximum result for the investment made by our supporters and be known as an agency that not only does good work, but makes a difference. Our vision statement is: Every Life Transformed!
